The pancake production (2019)

Solo show and performance in Gallery Úthverfa in Ísafjörður, Iceland. (see video below)

The Pancake Production by Anna Andrea Winther is a performance where she sets up stations that are based on the work of women in the saltfish-production in Ísafjörður from the 19th – 20th century and treats her grandmothers pancake recipe (that grew up in the area) through a modernized version of that process as an attempt to connect with the past. In the performance she tries to get to know this unfamiliar process of her fore-mothers through a recipe that is familiar and dear to her. Through this process different recipes and food traditions from Icelandic women from the past and present are woven together.

19th – 20th century

Salt (imported or from Reykjanes)

Water in a tub

Rocks

As much fish as you could handle

Filet the fish and salt it. Wash it with water with a coarse brush, no matter the weather. Lay it on a rock so it faces the sun. Turn regularly. Stack it up. Repeat.

Grandmothers pancakes

20th – 21st century

5 dl flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

7 dl milk

50 gr oil

2 eggs

Vanillaextract by taste

Mix the dry-ingridients, then mix the wet, pour slowly in the bowl and mix together. Pour onto

the pan on low-heat with butter. Pour so they will become thin. Repeat.
