Origins/Transformation
2016. Glass. Installed in Gufunes beach.
The stone is of the earth just as we are. It is born in the mountain. As it breaks free from the mountain it becomes a unit of it’s own. As time goes on that unit becomes one with the earth again in the form of sand. Then the sand is taken and made into a whole oncemore by human invervention, in the form of glass.
In this work I wanted to work with this process. The glass is forced into it’s original form; the stone. I took a stone from a black beach in Iceland called Gufunes and placed on it sand and glass and put it in a kiln. The glass formed into sort of a shell shape of the rock and peeled of like skin. I then put the glass back where I had found the stone.
